BEN HOFFMAN LECTURES AT THE SPURS/HUMPHREY "MYTHS ABOUT AMERICA" LECTURE SERIES AT MIT
-April, 2005-
On February 14th Ben Hoffman gave a guest lecture at MIT as part of the SPURS/Humphrey
lecture series entitled "Myths About America".
This new lecture series is intended to encourage debates within the MIT community
regarding the way international students and Fellows view the U.S. society,
polity and economy. Organized by Professor Bish Sanyal, Director of the SPURS/Humphrey
Program in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, the purpose of this
lecture series is to subject to scrutiny conventional and popular understanding
of non-U.S. citizens regarding social, economic, and political trends which
influence US engagement with other nations.
Dr. Hoffman's lecture entitled "Waging Peace with Jimmy Carter in Sudan"
was well received, with a lively Question and Answer discussion including defining
the nature and role of power in political violence.
