FOUR MORE YEARS: KEEPING PEACEBUILDING RELEVANT IN A WORLD WAGING WAR ON TERROR
"The Canadian International
Institute of Applied Negotiation (CIIAN)
is pleased to invite you to a presentation and discussion on:
FOUR MORE YEARS: Keeping Peacebuilding Relevant in a World Waging War on Terror
with
Dr. Ben Hoffman
Date: Wednesday, December 8, 2004
Where: 1 Nicholas Street, Room 1200
Time: 2:00-4:00 pm
Dr. Ben Hoffman, co-founder of CIIAN and former Director, Conflict Resolution
at The Carter Center, will present his views for strengthening the field of
conflict resolution and peacebuilding to meet the challenges presented by a
world waging war on terror. Ben will argue that violence, not conflict, is the
enemy of peace. And the passion and ability to reduce violence must become the
goal of peaceworkers.
Based on a year-long study which canvassed 21 leading authorities, Dr. Hoffman
will argue that new skills and tools are needed to bridge the gap between conflict
resolution know-how and peace action. To activate, professionalize and empower
peaceworkers in a world that is ready to dismiss their relevancy, Ben believes
a new global network is needed, the International Academy for Reduction of Political
Violence.
